Walmart Partners with Symbotic to Enhance Delivery and Pickup Services

Walmart has announced a significant investment in its delivery and pickup operations through a $520 million partnership with AI robotics firm Symbotic. This collaboration aims to automate 400 Accelerated Pickup and Delivery centers, enhancing efficiency and customer convenience. As part of the deal, Symbotic will acquire Walmart’s Advanced Systems and Robotics business for $200 million, with potential additional payments up to $350 million. Symbotic’s AI and robotics technology is already operational in Walmart’s 42 regional distribution centers. The acquisition is expected to finalize soon, promising substantial improvements in fulfilling eCommerce orders. Additionally, Walmart is leveraging AI for store layout planning using digital twins and plans to expand digital shelf labels to over 2,300 stores by the end of 2025.
