Apple Secretly Building AI Coding Tool with Anthropic! Is This the Future of Xcode?

Apple is diving deeper into AI, collaborating with Anthropic to develop an AI-powered coding tool for Xcode, Apple’s primary code-writing environment, according to Bloomberg. This new Xcode version will integrate Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet model, enabling it to “write, edit, and test code on behalf of programmers.”

Currently being rolled out internally, the company is testing its capabilities before deciding on a public release. Developers will reportedly be able to use a chat interface to make requests, test user interfaces, and manage bug fixing, all powered by AI. While Apple has yet to comment, Anthropic declined to comment.

Other tech giants are already leveraging AI in their coding processes. Microsoft’s Satya Nadella previously noted that AI contributes to a significant portion of their codebase. OpenAI is exploring acquiring Windsurf, another AI coding tool, to enhance ChatGPT’s coding assistance. Apple previously announced “Swift Assist” at WWDC 2024 but hasn’t launched it yet.

This new tool might give Apple a crucial advantage as it pushes forward its AI development. This comes as Apple recently delayed its upgraded Siri, acknowledging that the rollout will take longer than expected.
