Microsoft to train 1 million South Africans on AI skills
Microsoft has announced plans to train 1 million South Africans in artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity skills by 2026. Lillian Barnard, President of Microsoft Africa, highlighted that this initiative aims to provide skilling opportunities and industry-recognized certifications, enabling the youth to compete globally.
This effort builds upon Microsoft's previous commitments in the region. In May 2024, the company invested R1.3 billion to spur job creation and enhance digital capabilities among small, medium, and micro-enterprises (SMMEs) and youth. The investment focuses on developing skills in areas such as cloud computing, data analysis, AI, and machine learning.
